My first encounter with the ‘toys’ was in my childhood years ago. As long as I remember my father never wanted me to wear frocks or dresses but I still had dolls and kitchen sets to play with because I was a girl. Once again, my rendezvous with the kitchen set happened years later, but this time it was my son who wanted to play with it. As the popular stigma goes that Boys should play with cars and guns and not kitchen sets and dolls, I heard all these arguments from friends and family.

My second son never wanted to play with the toys his brother had showed interest. Instead, he picked up sports, sensory play and preferred outdoor activities. It is actually then I realized the power of ‘toys’. I experienced the uniqueness of each child which influences their choices and provides them the agency to act. It’s then I realized that ‘toys’ are much more than just being mere instruments of play. The choice of toys depicts that children are decisive. And the toys they play with influence their learning in return. Hence “Play is Child’s serious business”. The initial years of a baby’s growth is both physical as well as mental. It begins with observation, expands with experience and embeds itself with absorption. And all this happens when the child is playing.

Once this thought rang bells in my mind, I became very conscious in my choices and decisions about the toys I bought for my kids. Looking around, I realized that the market is flooded with them but neither they are backed by any expertise nor the quality is in sync with child safety. The materials used are not sustainable and do not promote a healthy play. As much as a new parent is intrigued to buy new and more toys for their child, they do want to know its purpose and use. Not always the parent sits along to play with the child and in fact that should not be the way.

A toy should be able to captivate a child’s concentration, stimulate learning and involve her independently. The Play Chapter was born to create purposeful and sustainable toys. And I am happy to announce that me and my team has been successful in producing range of toys which are both research and experience backed. Hope you and your child enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating them.
